Mike uses his background in research management and innovation to assist clients with the management of
their intellectual property portfolio. His experience in managing intellectual property includes leadership of
international licensing programs, negotiation of joint development programs, monitoring and responding to
competitor's activities, project managing patent and trademark families, intellectual property training, and
managing the systems required to cost-effectively administer a large and complex portfolio of intellectual
property.
"I enjoy working closely with clients to understand and develop their specific requirements for the protection
of their products and brands, and then working with these clients and my Griffith Hack colleagues to deliver
these requirements in a commercially appropriate manner, says Mike.
Prior to his appointment as the intellectual property manager for a multinational manufacturing company,
Mike worked as a research engineer both in Australasia and Scandinavia, where he led fundamental and
commercial research projects and project portfolios in materials and process engineering, software and
equipment development. As an engineer Mike published papers in 10 peer-reviewed journals as well as
writing a number of industry reports and presenting at international conferences.
More recently Mike has published on IP management in a range of business and law publications ranging
from Company Director to Intellectual Property Law Bulletin, as well as presenting in local and international
conferences. Mike has also worked with the Griffith Hack Clean & Sustainable Technologies Group to use
patent filing data to show trends in innovation in the area of clean and sustainable technologies. This has
included extensive patent reviews in clean coal, solar and hybrid cars. Mike joined Griffith Hack in 2007.
