Experience:
| Russell has over 30 years of national and international experience in the IP and IT fields. He has expertise in all areas of IP, IT, e-commerce and telecommunications law, with a strong focus on all litigious and commercial aspects of patent, copyright, trade mark and design law, competition and licensing law, as well as marketing, contract, sports and sponsorship law.
Russell has provided strategic advice as well as managing complex national and international licensing, corporate asset acquisitions and sales, joint ventures, collaborative agreements and IP/IT (including patent oppositions) litigation matters for individuals and companies from various sectors, including the life sciences, medical devices, mining, environmental, electronics, packaging, fashion, pharmaceutical, construction and biotech industries. Russell has prosecuted and advised on strategies for registration, protection and exploitation of trade marks for local and foreign small and large companies alike, including a leading Australian bank, international Gaming and Lottery Group, a Multinational Confectionary Group and one of the country’s largest property developers. Russell’s clients have also included Australia’s largest free to air television broadcaster and government business enterprises, for which he has prepared and negotiated IT cross border outsourcing agreements and advised on issues such as the use of listening and surveillance devices in Australia and issues relating to Foreign Corrupt Practices and corporate compliance. Russell very recently acted as lead partner in the acquisition of the Nylex Esky business. Russell has been rated a leading IP/IT specialist lawyer in the Asia Pacific Region by various legal rating publications for the last 8 years and has also been listed as a leading specialist in the Guide to the World’s Leading Patent Law Practitioners (9th edition, 2010).
