Nick’s current work involves all aspects of patent work, including advising on patentability and infringement, drafting patent specifications, and handing contentious matters before the Australian Patent Office and the Federal Court. He has considerable experience in obtaining patent protection in Asia, Europe and the United States. A significant aspect of Nick’s practice involves working with clients to capture ideas and to manage patent portfolios, including providing strategic advice on when, where and what to protect.

Nick is a registered patent and trade mark attorney with over twelve years of experience and he is an active member of the Engineering Group. In particular, he leads the firm’s Materials Group and he has presented on IP issues in academic and business forums.

Nick’s background is in material science, with an emphasis on metal alloys. This background has led to a long standing involvement in materials technologies, metal production, mineral processing, building construction and mechanical applications. He specialises in extractive metallurgy, and associated processing steps, and manufacturing technologies. Nick understands the role that intellectual property plays in business and, for that reason, he assists clients to understand the impact of IP on their broader business goals.
