Experience:



Malcolm trained in both chemistry and biochemistry at the undergraduate level, and achieved his Honours degree in biochemistry. He has substantial experience in life science and medical research into various aspects of human health and disease. His research interests revolved around metabolism, and in particular, lipid (e.g. plasma cholesterol, lipoproteins and liver) homeostasis. He has first-hand experience in heart disease research, diabetes research, gastrointestinal research and breast cancer research. In addition to academic research, Malcolm has worked in industry for a biotechnology company. Technically, Malcolm has experience with chemical and biochemical analytical techniques, including chromatography and high-throughput techniques, genetics, biostatistics, molecular biology, cell biology, and histochemistry, for example. Recently, Malcolm has been involved with IP relating to biofuel technology, peptides and antibodies.

Malcolm is a member of the Life Sciences and Chemical Group, specialising in biotechnology. He is involved in drafting and prosecution of Australian and foreign patent applications. Malcolm has experience in validity and infringement opinions and re-examination of granted pharmaceutical and medical use patents. Malcolm has also drafted a patent application pro bono for an Australian charity.

Malcolm is a member of the Institute of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys of Australia (IPTA) and the Intellectual Property Society of Australia and New Zealand (IPSANZ).
