Brendan Nugent has been working in patent law for over 20 years. His practice focuses on drafting patents in the fields of organic chemistry, drug discovery, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, but he also works in other areas of chemistry including polymer chemistry. He also handles patent prosecution and oppositions for both Australian and foreign clients.

A registered patent attorney, Brendan joined Griffith Hack in 1993 and established the firm’s Biotechnology group in Brisbane in 1998. He became a Principal of the firm in 2000.

Brendan began his career as a patent examiner with the Australian Patent Office, which has given him a well-balanced view of patent law. He was also seconded for two years to Intellectual Property Management Pty Ltd, a Griffith Hack company whose sole purpose is to provide intellectual property management services to a leading Australian government research organisation. Brendan was involved in the management of the organisation’s patent portfolio.

While retaining a close relationship with a number of public research organisations, Brendan now serves a range of other clients from start-ups to large Australian biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, as well as Australian universities and overseas agencies.
