Experience:
| Andrew is a senior lawyer with 20 years of legal experience, including over a decade specialising in intellectual property litigation. Andrew’s practice encompasses most areas of intellectual property litigation with an emphasis on matters relating to protection of confidential information, trade mark disputes, passing-off and breaches of Part V of the Trade Practices Act, copyright, patent infringement and related disputes. He also has significant experience in general contractual disputes and, in particular, agreements for the licensing of intellectual property rights. Before being admitted to practice in 1993, Andrew was the Associate to Chief Justice Black and, prior to that, Justice C A Sweeney in the Federal Court of Australia.
Andrew has advised and acted for a wide variety of clients ranging from multi-national mining and manufacturing corporations to local medium and small business enterprises. His clients include companies and individuals in fields as diverse as heavy transport manufacturing, automotive, electrical and electronic industries through to the retail, clothing, fashion, fine arts and jewellery sectors.
Andrew is also the treasurer and immediate past secretary of the Trans-National Committee of Management of the Intellectual Property Society of Australia and New Zealand and a past chair of the society’s Victorian Committee. He is a co-author of Australian Patent Law, an intellectual property text published by LexisNexis Butterworths. He also contributes to various journals and in-house publications on topics ranging from director’s duties to passing off and implied licences to repair.
