Patent Basics - Griffith Hack
| A patent is a temporary monopoly granted by the government to an inventor in return for disclosing the invention to the public in a patent specification. It is essential that an invention is not disclosed to anyone before a patent application is filed Under Australian patent law an invention must be 'novel' and also involve an 'inventive step'. |
Novelty |
| Your invention must be new when compared with any publicly available document, or any device or method known publicly, anywhere in the world. |
Inventive Step |
| Your invention must not be obvious to a person skilled in the invention’s technical field in light of their common general knowledge as well as publicly available documents. |
