Extensions of term are generally only available for pharmaceutical inventions.
Under the Patents Act 1990 (the Act), an extension of time for actions relating to most of the deadlines specified in the Act can be obtained in certain circumstances. Certain deadlines can be extended in advance, and other deadlines can be extended after the deadlines have passed in order to restore a lapsed patent application or patent (the application or patent having lapsed due to a failure to attend to a relevant action by the deadline).
