Amanda was introduced to patents in 1992 when working at Derwent publications on the WPI database and providing input into searching strategies. She then joined the patent department of UK biotechnology company Protherics Limited (now BTG), which specialised in rational drug design and peptide vaccine technology. She worked as a patent attorney in UK patent attorney firms for 10 years before moving to Australia in 2003, becoming a partner at Griffith Hack in 2005.
